Yesterday, I stepped out for lunch to find a crowd of businessmen and press crew aiming their views upwards. I was hoping it was AIG tower, finally replacing their LED screen at the top of the building (tax payer money for efficiency… though I wonder how much it costs to keep it running).
Across Garden Road stood Cheung Kong Center, a view that is expected day to day. Except on this particular Tuesday, a man in neon orange pants was climbing up the side of the 62-stories skyscraper. It was the infamous French Spiderman though as I recall, he’s already climbed up the Cheung Kong Center.
As I fought my way through the crowd to get a closer view, down below stood a yellow sign that read “one hundred months .org” — great marketing. Ah, his purpose was greater this time — a climb (for) against global warming.
The view of CKC from a distance… wow.
I ran off to grab a sandwich (ham and swiss), expecting to see that this unknown had made it to the top of the building. But by the time I got back, he could not be found. Upon returning to my cubicle (yes, office space), I typed in the page to find this.

Please visit and read about the tipping point. Their technical note summary is below for your easy reference:
We calculate that 100 months from 1 August 2008, atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases will begin to exceed a point whereby it is no longer likely we will be able to avert potentially irreversible climate change. ‘Likely’ in this context refers to the definition of risk used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to mean that, at that particular level of greenhouse gas concentration, there is only a 66 – 90 per cent chance of global average surface
temperatures stabilising at 2º Celsius above pre-industrial levels. Once this concentration is exceeded, it becomes more and more likely that we will overshoot a 2º C level of warming. This is the maximum acceptable level of temperature rise agreed by the European Union and others as necessary to retain reasonable confidence of preventing uncontrollable and ultimately catastrophic warming. We also believe this calculation to be conservative.
